A young Canadian is interested in joining the CAF and is looking for information about how to enrol while also applying for jobs with other companies. A CAF unit is deployed to Eastern Europe and needs to be interoperable with forces from many partner nations. Fighter jets scramble from forward operating locations to intercept an unidentified aircraft entering Canadian airspace. All of these vignettes have a connection to the digital transformation of the CAF.

The CAF Digital Campaign Plan describes the vision for a digitally transformed military and provides the operational design for how we will manage, employ, develop, generate, and support the CAF to become digital. The document supports Government of Canada modernization efforts and seeks to ensure that the CAF has the capabilities, equipment, and culture demanded by the digital age.

The CAF Digital Campaign Plan is a 20-page document that describes the imperatives for digital transformation, the benefits of digital transformation, and some of the obstacles to executing digital transformation. It provides the strategic outcomes for the CAF and envisions what we will look like after we undertake a successful digital transformation. The CAF Digital Campaign Plan also recognizes that technology is only one element necessary for change, and that people, data, process and culture must all align to realize the benefits of digital transformation.

Canadians who serve in the CAF live in a digital world, and the CAF Digital Campaign Plan strives to make the CAF a more digital workplace. Becoming digital will help us serve our members better, ensure that we can provide a broad range of military options to government, and to maintain an advantage over our adversaries.

“At the heart of what we need for a decision advantage is the linkage of data and effectors through our decision-makers. This will be key to the degree of interoperability we can achieve not only enterprise-wide, but also with our most trusted international partner” – VCDS – CAF Digital Champion (2022 C4ISR Conference)

The CAF Digital Campaign Plan will be available on Canada.ca shortly. In the meantime, the document is available internally: CCSI External Access Library - Digital Campaign Plan - All Documents (accessible only on the National Defence network). External users may also reach out to +ADM(PA) VCDS/RS PA - VCEMD/SE AP@ADM(PA)@Ottawa-Hull <ADMPAVCDSRSPA.VCEMDSEAP@forces.gc.ca> to obtain a PDF copy.
