DM/CDS to Participate in First-Ever Defence Team Youth Fireside Chat

October 7, 2022 - Defence Stories

By: Nicholas Rudiak, ADM(PA) YDAC Representative

Please note, this event is intended for young members of the Defence Team (public service employees and Canadian Armed Forces members—Regular and Reserve Force), in the 18-34 age range. Questions will be oriented towards young professionals at the start of their careers.

On October 26th, 2022, from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM EST, Deputy Minister Bill Matthews and Chief of the Defence Staff General Wayne Eyre will participate in the Defence Team’s first-ever youth-oriented virtual fireside chat.

They will offer their views on the role and significance of youth perspectives across the military and civilian sides of our organization; including their thoughts on attracting and retaining young talent, addressing the needs of youth employees, and offering guidance to those at the beginning of their military or civilian careers.

This event is being hosted and moderated by the Youth in Defence Advisory Council (YDAC), an organization stood-up by ADM(Pol) Pete Hammerschmidt, in his capacity as Defence Team Youth Champion. The YDAC was created in early 2019 to provide youth from across the organization the opportunity to provide input and feedback on a variety of issues and topics of concern. They work in parallel with the Defence Team Young Professionals Network to advance the youth voice across our organization.

While this event is primarily geared towards Defence Team members at the start of their career, or under 35 years of age, it is open to all who are interested in joining.
