National AccessAbility Week 2023: Building an Accessible Public Service Together

May 26, 2023 – Defence Stories

National AccessAbility Week (NAAW) is a yearly opportunity to celebrate the contributions of persons with disabilities and recognize the efforts of individuals, communities, and workplaces to actively remove barriers to accessibility and inclusion – and it’s fast approaching.

Defence Team public service employees are invited to join the Canada School of Public Service and the Office of Public Service Accessibility on May 30th for a series of stimulating conversations that explore the theme: “Learn from Yesterday, Change Today, Enhance Tomorrow: Building an Accessible Public Service Together.” This event will showcase the authentic stories and insights of people with lived experience of disability. Panelists will speak to us about how to build a more accessible public service, and how this can help us better serve all Canadians. Panelists will discuss some of the barriers to inclusion they face and their thoughts on how to remove them. They will also talk about the benefits of applying an intersectional approach to accessibility and disability inclusion in the workplace. Panelists include leaders at all levels in our federal public service who are committed to sharing their expertise and lived experiences to advance accessibility and inclusion such as John Ward, Diane Rudakenga, Carly Fox, and Marie-Jeanne Nahas, among others.
