Celebrate Official Languages Day on September 14
September 11, 2023 – Defence Stories

Official Languages Day (#OL Day), takes place on September 14 and allows us the opportunity to celebrate linguistic duality and Canada’s rich heritage. The Department of National Defence (DND) and Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) is proud to celebrate our accomplishments in strengthening the culture and promotion of our official languages (OL), one of which is the release of our Official Languages Action Plan (only accessible via the DWAN), that aims at establishing work environments that are truly conducive to the effective use of both OLs.
Mark your calendars and celebrate OL Day by:
- Attending a webcast themed “Our languages, a window to the world” on September 14, 2023, from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm (EST). Please register by September 13.
- Watching a video message from your Official Languages Co-Champions, Ms. Isabelle Desmartis, ADM (HR-Civ) and Major-General Simon Bernard, Chief of Staff for the Canadian Joint Operations Command and members of the Defence Team, which will be released on the Maple Leaf on September 14.
- Using the MS Teams background and email signature templates
- Using the hashtag #OLDay on social media
Happy #OLDay!
