Security Awareness Week 2024 — “Security beyond the office”
January 29, 2024 - Defence Stories

Security Awareness Week (SAW) is an annual event held during the second week of February in which departments are mandated to promote good security practices and to share them government-wide.
Director General Defence Security (DGDS) is promoting a strong security culture at all levels within the Department of National Defence (DND) and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) by encouraging strong security practices no matter the work environment someone is in. Security Awareness Week will be hosted virtually and in person from February 5 to 9, 2024, with the theme “Security Beyond the Office.”
It's important to remember that everyday security measures keep everyone safe. Some examples are: to remember to lock your computer screen when you leave your desk; do not plug personal devices into your DWAN computer; do not open links in emails that you are not familiar with; do not sharing government information with people/organization that do not have a need to know and the security clearance for that information and to practice safe travelling tips.
During SAW and throughout the year, the Security Awareness Training and Education section (SATE) will post on its Security Awareness Toolkit page (link accessible only on the National Defence network) various security-related topics that will include: video interviews/presentations on security issues from specialists; infographics; animation motion graphic video.
We all need to do our part to keeping all members of our Defence Team secure through VIGILANCE!
The Security Awareness Training and Education Team,
Director General Defence Security
