Security Awareness Week 2024

February 7, 2024 - Defence Stories

Message from the Deputy Minister and the Chief of the Defence Staff

Defence Team,

Today we launch Security Awareness Week for 2024. This annual campaign reminds us of the importance of security within the Defence Team.

In a world where threats are ever evolving, we must be vigilant. This year’s campaign aims to refresh our understanding of best practices and directives, focusing on strategies to reinforce our everyday security knowledge.

The theme for this year, “Security Beyond the Office”, demands our attention 24/7. It serves as a stark reminder that security is not confined to the workplace; it extends to every facet of our lives.

In the age of cyber threats, identity theft, and online scams, we must grasp the very real potential for harm. Compromised information poses not just a risk but a genuine threat to our institutions, and every member of the Defence Team. The consequences of information falling into the wrong hands can be severe and far-reaching.

Together, we form a line of defense. Our unity is our strength, and we must stand against potential exploitation by adversaries. Let’s not underestimate the impact of our collective actions; they serve as the foundation of our security.

If you have questions or insights, turn to your unit security supervisor or chain of command – they are our experts, standing ready to guide and support the Defence Team.
