Hire a specific student to meet your student hiring goals!

DND managers have increased flexibility to meet student hiring needs! As part of the Public Service Commission’s (PSC) Specific Name Referral pilot, hiring managers can now hire a specific student from the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP) inventory.

Managers can use the new functionality in FSWEP to request specific students using their name and applicant ID number when one of the following criteria is met:

1. The student is a member of an employment equity group.
2. The student job is in a remote location, where it is difficult to hire . 
3. The student job requires a specialized field of study.

This recruitment option supports DND’s efforts of rejuvenating our workforce and reaching our goal of hiring 1200 students, with at least 5% identifying as Indigenous.

Students must meet the eligibility criteria to be hired. It is critical that hiring decisions continue to align with staffing values and must be made objectively and free from personal favouritism or influence.
