Peng Wang

My name is Peng Wang, and I am originally from China. I am currently studying computer programming at Algonquin college. A couple of years ago, when two of my older children began their post-secondary studies at university, I also decided to continue my education. After beginning an Interdisciplinary Studies program in Human-Centred Design, I decided to focus on computer programming. It is amazing to study the same subjects as my children and having the opportunity to learn and grow alongside them.

Since January 2024, I’ve worked as a co-op student for the Director of Military Personnel Planning and Program Coordination (DMPPPC). In this position, my primary responsibilities include customizing a Microsoft Access Database system for analysts and tracking and managing oversight and government reports. I am also working to create a SharePoint 365 site for my team.

My goal while working at the Department of National Defence (DND) during my co-op term is to make a difference through the work I produce. What I appreciate most about this role is the genuine care and support I receive from my colleagues. The supportive team environment is a significant motivating factor for me. The nurturing environment and support network at DND allows me to apply my knowledge and expertise to a variety of projects.

One of my favourite parts about working at DND is the cultural atmosphere. I had never met military personnel before, but at Carling campus, engaging with these individuals have now become a regular part of my daily routine.  During my term at DND, there have also been departmental events to foster team bonding. One of the most memorable was the Chief of Programme (C Prog) softball and barbeque event.  I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it!

Before joining DND, I started learning French. The longer I stay at DND, the more I want to improve my French skills and become trilingual as I already speak English and Chinese. It would be exciting to speak with my colleagues in their first language!

Thank you all, my dear friends at the DMPPPC, Military Personnel Command (MILPERSCOM), and Director Materiel Group Strategic Plans (DMGSP) from the Materiel Group, for empowering me at the beginning of my wonderful journey with DND!
