Official Languages Day
September 9, 2024 - Defence Stories

Message from Official Languages co-champions
Dear members of the Defence Team,
Official Languages Day (#OLDay) will be celebrated this year on September 12, 2024, under the Theme "Our Languages in Action!".
Our languages in ACTION! encourages the exploration and promotion of our official languages in all their forms. The theme also inspires commitment and collaboration to support and promote community cohesion in a rapidly changing world.
Celebrated every second Thursday in September, OLDay provides an opportunity for federal organizations to promote linguistic duality and to celebrate our founding principles and our rich heritage as citizens of a bilingual country. Many virtual activities are planned to reach as many Canadians as possible.
On the day of the event, several 20 – 30 second testimonial vignettes by personnel across the country, preceded by a short OL co-champion introductory video will be broadcast. You are invited to launch your own local initiatives at your respective bases/wings and organizations to mark this event, depending on your resources and capabilities.
Take advantage of #OLDay to celebrate English and French, while discovering and learning about the talents and realities of Canadians and the work of minority community organizations.
This event is organized by the Council of the Network of Official Languages Champions and the Linguistic Duality Network, in collaboration with the Canada School of Public Service, Canadian Heritage, the Treasury Board Secretariat, the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages and other partners.
The virtual event is open to the public, on September 12, 2024, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (ET).
