Canadian Armed Forces Women in Sports grant applications now open

This program is designed to address and reduce the obstacles and challenges that have historically impeded women's full and equal participation in sports.
The Canadian Armed Forces Women in Sports has recently transitioned their initiative into the CAF Women in Sports Program. This program is designed to address and reduce the obstacles and challenges that have historically impeded women's full and equal participation in sports.
The Women in Sports Grant Program seeks to promote a more inclusive and equitable environment while empowering female participants – coaches, officials, and athletes within the armed forces, ensuring they have the necessary support and opportunities to succeed in their sporting endeavors. The goal is to support up to $3,000 per Base and Wings to offer opportunities to women who participate in sports.
What can the grant be used for?
The following is a list of examples, albeit not exhaustive, of the type of financial support that is available:
- Facility rental fee
- Guest speaker fee
- Engagement of coaching services
- Base/Wing sporting event
- Equipment Purchase to augment WIS Program (women’s golf clubs, women’s basketballs, etc...) - ** Note – Up to a total of $500 per base/wing and subject to approval**
Examples of Potential Women in Sports Programs
The following is a list of examples of previous events and suggestions and concepts for future programs:
- Triathlon/running program
- Golf training lessons
- Hockey/powerskating clinic
- Learn to Lift clinic
- Ski lessons
- Swimming program
- Nutritional workshop
- Guest speaker - subject matter expert on women’s sports
Who can apply?
All applications must be routed through either the local Manager of Fitness, Sports & Recreation or the designated Sports Coordinator. Members may complete the application form, but their request will be forwarded to their appropriate Sports Coordinator prior to approval. This centralized process ensures streamlined communication and adherence to established protocols.
When can you apply?
- May 1, 2024 – March 31, 2025
- All submissions must be received by NLT March 15, 2025.
Application Process
Complete and submit the application form for review.
- Applications will be reviewed, and a response will be provided to the applicant within 14 days of submission.
- Applications must be submitted via the application form via cfmws.ca prior to March 15, 2025.
- Requests must be completed prior to March 31, 2025.
