Captain Kyle Ho, a dedicated Combat Engineer with over 24 years of combined service in the Canadian Armed Forces, was recently honored with two prestigious awards: the Member of the Order of Military Merit (MMM) and the Deputy Minister/Chief of Defence Staff Excellence in Defence Award: Unsung Hero. Captain Ho, a respected member of the Real Property Operations Unit (West) (RPOU(W)), was recognized not only for his exemplary service but also for his unwavering commitment to fostering a more inclusive and supportive CAF culture.

The MMM is awarded to those who have shown exceptional leadership and meritorious service in positions of great responsibility, and Captain Ho embodies these qualities. His leadership has been pivotal in building a cohesive team within RPOU(W) and advancing numerous projects of national importance.

Captain Ho’s recognition with the Excellence in Defence Unsung Hero Award reflects his profound impact as an advocate for change. He has been a vocal champion for inclusivity within the CAF, courageously sharing his experiences with systemic racism linked to his Taiwanese heritage. His openness has become a catalyst for change, shedding light on contemporary biases and pushing the CAF toward a culture of respect and understanding. Additionally, Captain Ho has worked tirelessly to address and destigmatize mental health issues within the military. Drawing from his own experiences with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), he has created multiple online resources and Facebook groups that provide information and support for those grappling with mental health challenges. His transparency and courage in sharing his journey have inspired many within the CAF, making it easier for others to seek help and fostering a more supportive community.
