On March 7, 2025, Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC), on behalf of Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), awarded the next Federal Health Claims Processing Services (FHCPS) contract to Medavie Inc. This contract is expected to go live on August 1, 2027.

The Department of National Defence (DND) and the CAF provide a wide range of health benefits and services to military members: coverage of medical, dental, preventive health care and supplies, prescribed drugs, and other treatments provided by health professionals.

While healthcare services are provided to serving members primarily through CAF clinics, they can also be outsourced to provincial healthcare systems, institutions, and private practitioners due to staffing shortages or required specialization (e.g. MRI, cardiovascular treatment, eye examinations).

The provision of high-quality healthcare to our CAF members remains our top priority – this competitive process has helped to ensure the provision of high-quality healthcare is maintained.

What does this mean for you?

At this time, there is nothing for you to action. The next contract will not change the benefits and services participants receive or how they qualify for them. It continues health authorizations and claims processing services at industry and Government of Canada standards.

We will continue to update you as we work to implement the next FHCPS contract.
