Each year in Canada, Right to Know week is an opportunity to both reflect on the importance of access to information in Canadian democracy and our commitment to transparency.

Transparency and accountability are essential to maintaining the trust that Canadians place in the Defence team, whether we are safeguarding national security, supporting our people, or working with partners at home and abroad. Every Canadian has the right to know what is happening in their government institutions.

As your Chief Privacy Officer since April 2025, I am pleased to launch our new Access to Information and Privacy toolkit during Right to Know week. This toolkit features training, tips and guidance related to access to information, that will help support all of us to fulfill our responsibility to Canadians. I encourage every Defence Team member to explore the toolkit (internal access only – sign in with D365) on SharePoint and take advantage of the available training opportunities.

During Right to Know week, I encourage you to follow and use #RTK2025 on all social media channels to learn more about and engage with the activities taking place across the country.

Thank you for your continued commitment to access to information and privacy, and to Canadians.
