September 9, 2025 – Defence Stories

Defence Team members,

This year, Official Languages Day takes place on Thursday, September 11, 2025.

This important day has been celebrated every second Thursday in September since 2009. Sixteen years later, it continues to provide an opportunity for federal organizations to promote linguistic duality, and to celebrate our founding principles and our rich heritage as citizens of a bilingual country.

This year’s theme is "Uniting Around Canadian Books." It’s a wonderful opportunity to reflect on how Canadian literature, in both official languages, highlights the diversity of Canadian voices and the importance of literature in discovering, learning about, and building bridges between our two official language communities.

From 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (EDT) on September 11, 2025, Official Languages Day: Uniting Around Canadian Books will be hosted by the Council of the Network of Official Languages Champions, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat, the Department of Canadian Heritage, the Canada School of Public Service and the Linguistic Duality Network. This virtual event will introduce participants to books that reflect different Canadian realities to help them gain new insights into the role of literature in intercultural Canadian dialogue.

Mark your calendars to celebrate Canada's rich linguistic heritage and diversity. Happy Official Languages Day from your Official Languages Co-Champions!
