On November 2, the Sikh community and Canadians from all walks of life gathered at Mount Hope Cemetery in Kitchener, Ontario for the 18th annual Sikh Remembrance Day ceremony. This year’s event marked a historic moment with the unveiling of a Canada Post commemorative stamp honouring over a century of Sikh contributions to the Canadian Armed Forces.

From the 10 Sikh soldiers who served during the First World War—including Private Buckam Singh, whose grave is the only known resting place of a Sikh soldier from the World Wars in Canada—to the Sikh members serving today, this ceremony reminds us of the courage, resilience, and commitment that have shaped our nation’s military history.

The stamp, featuring an illustration of a Sikh soldier paying respects at Buckam Singh’s grave, is more than a tribute—it’s an opportunity for all Canadians to learn about a chapter of history that reflects inclusivity, diversity, and pride.

We remember. We honour. We celebrate being Canadian.

Lest we forget.
