The Department of National Defence recently announced the launch of the second phase of the national housing construction program through the Canadian Forces Housing Agency (CFHA).

The second phase of the program will see several thousand new Residential Housing Units (RHU) built at 25 locations across Canada.

Currently, CFHA’s housing portfolio includes over 11,700 RHUs at 27 military installations across Canada. CFHA has identified a need for between 7,000 and 10,000 additional housing solutions, mainly one- and two-bedroom units, to align with the evolving composition of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and its families.

Phase 2 follows the first phase of the construction program which is already delivering over 800 new RHUs in nine locations experiencing significant housing pressures. Together, Phases 1 and 2 will deliver up to 7,500 new builds in 25 locations nationally.

While Phase 2 of the program is being rolled out, CFHA also continues to pursue other alternative housing solutions such as potential acquisitions, leases, referrals and partnerships as an efficient alternative for providing housing to CAF members and the Defence community where market conditions support these approaches.
