The Department of National Defence’s (DND) Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers a range of services to support public service employees. This includes crisis and short-term counselling, peer support, coaching services, a digital mental health platform, and the Key Person Advice Line (KPAL).
In addition, specialized team services are available to support teams who are impacted by a variety of workplace challenges. These workplace challenges can include:
- Workplace stressors and adverse conditions
- The passing of a colleague
- A traumatic event
The goal of these specialized team services is multi-dimensional. They aim to provide a safe environment for those impacted to speak openly about their experiences, acknowledge and validate employees’ emotional and physical reactions, and help individuals focus on their strengths and resourcefulness to support a healthy recovery.
Through the EAP, specialized team services provide tailored support that adapts to the needs of the impacted team. Therefore, the support offered might look different each time, depending on the challenges affecting the team members. There are two types of sessions available:
- Psychoeducational support sessions
- Tailored workshops for managers and their employees (on a cost-recovery basis)
To access these services, managers and supervisors must contact OWB-BEO@forces.gc.ca and a subject matter expert will provide support tailored to the team’s needs.
