Self-ID is for everyone!

The Human Resources Management System (HRMS) got a new look! If not already done, please ensure to visit the updated HRMS application (accessible only on the National Defence network starting on April 27, 2026) and complete your Self-Identification (Self-ID) questionnaire.
Please also ensure to complete your Self-ID in the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) Applications Portal (TAP) (accessible only on the National Defence network).
Part A / Section A in both systems are mandatory.
All employees are encouraged to complete Part B / Section B and Part C / Section C to help ensure we have a more complete picture of DND’s public service workforce. This helps inform where we need to make bigger efforts in building a truly diverse and inclusive organisation.
Why Self‑ID?

Your information helps DND build a skilled, representative workforce and design programs that support equity‑seeking groups, such as the GC Workplace Accessibility Passport (accessible only on the National Defence network) and the Indigenous Career Navigator Program (accessible only on the National Defence network).
- Confidential and flexible! Your information is protected, not visible to managers or colleagues, and can be updated at any time.
- It’s quick! The questionnaire takes less than five minutes to complete.
- Learn more about HR initiatives! If you have completed Part C, stay tuned—email communication campaigns will be launching soon.
Self‑ID ensures your identity is counted and helps identify and remove workplace barriers while supporting diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
It’s important to note that:
- Self-ID data is aggregated and used only for workforce analysis and program development, not for performance or promotions.
- Disabilities do not need to be visible to self-identify.
- Indigenous or Métis persons may self-identify without a status card.
How to Self-ID if you don’t have access to the National Defence network (DWAN)?
You can request the PDF form by contacting diversity-diversite@forces.gc.ca and following the submission instructions below:
- Via email
- Download the questionnaire from the HR-Civ intranet (accessible only on the National Defence network).
- Complete Part A (mandatory) and Parts B and C (optional).
- Send via encrypted email to diversity-diversite@forces.gc.ca.
- Via mail
- Request a paper copy from your manager or the email below.
- Complete Part A, optional Parts B and C.
- Mail to:

How to Self-ID if you don’t have access to TAP?
At this time, the alternative form for the Modernized Self-ID form is not yet available.
