Update on Increased On-site Presence
June 15, 2026 – Defence Stories
As previously communicated, the Government has confirmed that effective July 6, 2026, employees who are eligible for hybrid work will be required to work onsite four days per week. Executives have already transitioned to a full-time on-site presence as of May 4, 2026.
Due to current space constraints and in recognition of anticipated workforce growth, the Department of National Defence (DND) will implement a staggered approach while work continues towards an eventual transition to an assigned seating model.
As workspace availability and implementation approaches will vary across Level 1 (L1) organizations, employees will receive specific updates and direction from their respective Chain of Command. As part of this long-term transition to an assigned seating model, some L1s may adopt a combination of assigned and unassigned seating to support the four-day onsite requirement.
This transition represents a shift for many employees. By working together, remaining flexible, and prioritizing collaboration and communication, we can adapt successfully to the next phase of our workplace evolution.
All DND employees must update their work arrangement in MyWorkArrangements by July 6, 2026, to reflect the new four-day onsite requirement, unless otherwise specified by their L1.
If you have any questions or concerns about these changes, please speak with your manager.
