Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members seeking to operate at the highest level can contribute to Canada’s most demanding missions at the Canadian Special Operations Training Centre (CSOTC).

As a core component of the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command (CANSOFCOM), CSOTC develops the specialized skills, knowledge, and readiness that enable special operations forces (SOF) to succeed in complex and high-risk environments.

Established in 2006 alongside CANSOFCOM, CSOTC was created to centralize and standardize special operations training across the command. The centre designs and delivers individual and collective training, develops courseware, provides deployable personnel, and contributes to lessons learned across the special operations community. Its work ensures a consistent level of readiness, interoperability, and professional excellence across all CANSOFCOM units.

CSOTC trains not only special operations operators, but also a wide range of specialists whose expertise is essential to mission success. Training is deliberately challenging, realistic, and aligned with the operational demands of modern special operations.

Specialized Training

CSOTC delivers advanced training pathways that support CANSOFCOM missions and develop highly specialized capabilities.

Rank qualification and leadership development courses deliver SOF-specific training to SOF Officers, non-commissioned members, and non-commissioned officers within the three SOF occupations (Special Operations Assaulters, Special Forces Operators, and Special Operations Technical Collection Operators).

Special Operations Common Environmental Training familiarizes SOF support and specialist personnel with CANSOFCOM’s culture, history, and some operational details. This training reinforces foundational special operations skills and enhances integration across CANSOFCOM units.

Special Operations Intelligence training focuses on the collection, analysis, and exploitation of information in support of mission planning and execution. Intelligence specialists are trained to work closely with tactical elements, contributing to situational awareness and informed decision-making in complex environments.

Special Operations Signals training develops communications systems specialists who enable secure, reliable information flow where conventional systems may be limited or unavailable.

Special Operations Medical Technicians training comprises multiple courses required to provide advanced medical care in high-threat and remote settings where access to conventional medical facilities may be limited.

IEnabling readiness and operational success

Beyond formal courses, CSOTC provides deployable training support, contributes to readiness evaluations, and integrates lessons learned to ensure training remains relevant and responsive to evolving threats.

Central to Canada’s special operations capability, CSOTC employs SOF Professionals who contribute to national security at home and abroad.
