Henley-on-Thames, England — Second Lieutenant Liam Cooke of Mineville, N.S., works on his technique as part of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) rowing crew during the Henley Royal Regatta at Henley-on-Thames, England, this July.
2Lt Cooke, who attended Eastern Shore District High School was a member of the Orenda Canoe Club, is a member of the CAF crew comprised of officer cadets and recent graduates of the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) from which he recently graduated. He graduated in May with an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering and is now a Pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Although he is relatively new to rowing, 2Lt Cooke brings experience from his days competing at the Canadian Canoe Kayak National Championships.
The CAF crew will compete in the King’s Cup event at the Henley Royal Regatta against military crews from Australia, France, New Zealand, UK, USA, Germany and the Netherlands. The event commemorates the centenary of a race last held in 1919 featuring crews comprised primarily of soldiers waiting to return home from the First World War.
