When his application to Royal Military College of Canada was misplaced in late 2011, Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Second Lieutenant Othello Fugulin had to wait an extra year to reapply – just in time, it turned out, for one of the best programs an aspiring pilot could ask for to come into existence.
After he resubmitted his application, Second Lieutenant Fugulin was informed about a new program finally being introduced after many years of discussions between the RCAF and Seneca College in Toronto, Ontario. Taking advantage of Seneca’s academic resources and the RCAF training infrastructure, pilot applicants fresh out of secondary school could obtain both their wings and a Bachelor of Aviation Technology in as few as four years by taking classes at Seneca and training with the RCAF while not at school.
When he learned that he was eligible, Second Lieutenant Fugulin simply could not turn down the chance. He went on to become the first applicant admitted to the program.
Three years in, Second Lieutenant Fugulin is flying the Harvard II trainer out of 15 Wing Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and gearing up for his final year of academics at Seneca College in January 2016.
As a respected member of Bandit Flight, Second Lieutenant Fugulin is looking forward to a career of flying tactical helicopters.
