Members of the Fleet Diving Unit (Pacific) (FDU(P)) traveled to Busan, South Korea to participate in Multinational Mine Warfare Exercise 24 (MN-MIWEX 24) under Operation HORIZON, between October 14-25, 2024, hosted by the Republic of Korea Navy.

While on operation, members of FDU(P) sailed on Republic of Korea Ship Cheon Wang Bong alongside members of the United States Navy, Royal Australian Navy, Philippine Navy, and Republic of Korea Navy with the goal of enhancing interoperability and improving understanding of the mine warfare environment in the Indo-Pacific region.

Part of mine countermeasures training during the exercise included pouncer operations where clearance divers are deployed from a helicopter into the water to conduct explosive ordinance disposal on a training mine, enhancing readiness in mine warfare.

Contributing towards Operation HORIZON, Canada’s mission to enhance peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, the Multinational Mine Warfare exercise expands the Royal Canadian Navy’s (RCN) opportunities to collaborate closely with partners and allies in the region, allowing Canada to play a more active role in strengthening regional security.
