RCN launches innovation competition
February 10, 2025 - Royal Canadian Navy
The Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) is charting a new course, and we need your ideas to guide the way.
Whether you’re new to the Navy or have years of experience, we want to hear how you think we can improve the day-to-day life of the RCN.
This could mean improving processes, upgrading technology or finding better ways to support sailors’ needs.
Your ideas could have a lasting impact on how we operate, work, and live.
Submit your ideas now through the innovation portal: https://apps.forces.mil.ca/RVU/
Competition theme: Quality of Life
For the first year, we’re focusing on improving “Quality of Life” for sailors.
Is there a more convenient way to handle daily routines, a morale-building tweak to living spaces, or a modern method to access support services?
While Quality of Life is the central theme, we welcome all ideas that could improve operations, efficiency, or morale across the Navy.
Not every idea will be feasible for immediate implementation, but don’t worry, we’ll make sure they don’t go unheard. If your submission can’t be acted upon directly by the RCN, it will be shared with the right subject matter experts for further consideration.
This is a unique opportunity to share what you see and influence how we all work and live. We’re excited to hear your suggestions. Together, we’ll continue to steer the RCN on a course that reflects innovation, efficiency and adaptability.
Process
The RCN innovation competition will run through four stages, and it’s designed to keep you involved every step of the way:
Stage 1 – Submission (First 3 Months):
Got an idea? Submit it! There’s no perfect formula for what an “innovative idea” should look like. Whether it’s a small adjustment or a major innovation, we want your input. There’s no wrong idea—just a chance to make Navy life better.
Stage 2 – Assessment:
A dedicated team, the Director Navy Requirements X (DNR X) Team, will review your proposal. They’re looking at three main criteria:
- Ownership: Can the Navy make this change happen?
- Feasibility: Is this idea something we can reasonably achieve now, with current resources and timelines?
- Technology: Is the required technology already at our disposal or within reach?
If your idea checks these boxes, you’ll move to the next stage.
Stage 3 – Finalist:
Make it to the finalist stage and you’ll work closely with the DNR X Team to shape your idea into a polished presentation. This is your chance to shine in front of senior leadership.
Stage 4 – Winner:
One or two winners will be chosen. If you win, you’ll play a key role in bringing your idea into action, helping shape the future of the RCN.
