Canadian Army shooters will aim high at Bisley competition

News Release

June 17, 2016 – Ottawa – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

Canadian Armed Forces members from both the Regular and Reserve Forces, will compete in the prestigious, annual British Defence Operational Shooting Competition to be held in Bisley, United Kingdom from June 19 to 29, 2016.

Based upon best results during the Canadian Armed Forces Small Arms Concentration in 2015, team members were drawn from all four Canadian Army Divisions, as well as from the Royal Canadian Air Force, and the Royal Canadian Navy.

“Bisley”, as the competition is often called, is held over a two-week period each summer and involves, most notably, the Army Operational Shooting Competition for Regular Force matches, and the Army Reserve Operational Shooting Competition (AROSC). At the AROSC last year, Sergeant Tatyana Danylyshyn of The Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary’s) took top shot and Corporal Baron Hordo of The Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada earned a third-place result.

Taking part in shooting concentrations, both at home and abroad, affords an opportunity for Canadian Armed Forces members to train and test their shooting skills, showcasing their marksmanship expertise and providing important experience for the reinvestment of best practices within home units and brigades.
