HMCS Ottawa sailors to meet with mayor during namesake visit

November 24, 2016 – CFB Esquimalt, BC – Department of National Defence / Royal Canadian Navy

Media are invited to attend a namesake visit between Mayor Jim Watson and Commander Sylvain Belair, Commanding Officer of Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Ottawa, in celebration of the ship’s 20th anniversary.

When: Friday, November 25th at 9 a.m. Media are requested to arrive no later than 8:45 a.m.

Where: Mayor’s reception area, Heritage Building, 2nd floor Ottawa City Hall, 110 Laurier Ave. W.

HMCS Ottawa is one of five modernized Halifax-class frigates based out of Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt, B.C. Canada’s modernized frigates have a new Combat Management System, radar capability, electronic warfare system, and upgraded communications technologies and missiles.

Commissioned on September 28th 1996, HMCS Ottawa is the fourth ship to carry this name.
