Media Opportunity with HMCS Saskatoon after successful Operation CARIBBE

Media are invited to conduct one-on-one interviews with the Command Team of HMCS Saskatoon as she leaves California this morning to sail home after a successful Operation CARIBBE. HMCS Saskatoon was at sea for 53 days in the eastern Pacific along the coast of Central America. During this time the ship made two successful interdictions on March 12 and another on April 6 seizing 1,124 kg of cocaine in total. Additionally, HMCS Saskatoon assisted the USCG in the disruption of two drug shipments on April 13 and 14, 2017 in international waters in the eastern Pacific.

What: Operation CARIBBE is Canada’s contribution to Operation MARTILLO, an interagency and multinational effort to improve regional security and deter criminal activity. HMCS Saskatoon is a Kingston-class Maritime Coastal Defence Vessel which has deployed twice on Operation CARIBBE. Lieutenant Commander Todd Bacon also commanded HMCS Saskatoon on Op CARIBBE in the spring of 2016, seizing or disrupting approximately 1,300 kg of cocaine.
