Canadian First World War soldier to be buried in France

Media are invited to attend the military burial of Sergeant James Alexander Milne on August 25, 2017, at Orchard Dump Cemetery in Arleux-en-Gohelle, France. In attendance will be representatives from the Government of Canada and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

On March 24, 2017, the Department of National Defence (DND) and the CAF announced the identification of the remains of a First World War soldier found in a field outside Arleux-en-Gohelle as those of Sergeant Milne, from Kincardineshire, Scotland, and then Calgary, Alberta.

Sergeant Milne was a member of the 10th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, a unit perpetuated by The Royal Winnipeg Rifles and The Calgary Highlanders. He died on April 28, 1917, at the age of 34, in connection with an operation against a German position known as the Arleux-Loop.

When: August 25, 2017, at 10:45; media to be in location by 10:15 (Central European Time). 

Where: Orchard Dump Cemetery, Arleux-en-Gohelle, Pas-de-Calais, France.

Cemetery directions: Orchard Dump Cemetery is located in Arleux-en-Gohelle, a village on the main road from Arras to Henin-Lietard, the D919. The cemetery is on the left side of this road, approximately one kilometre from the village of Bailleul-Sire-Berthoult.
