Chief of Staff of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force visits Ottawa

September 25, 2017 – Ottawa – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

General Yoshiyuki Sugiyama, Chief of Staff, Japan Air Self-Defense Force and Lieutenant-General Michael Hood, Commander Royal Canadian Air Force issued the following statement on the occasion of Gen Sugiyama’s visit to Ottawa, September 22-23, 2017:

“We are pleased to have spent this time strengthening existing bonds and building new ones between our two forces.  The Royal Canadian Air Force and Japan Air Self-Defense Force are both committed to collaboration that will benefit our operational capabilities. 

"We discussed regional security issues in Asia and the Arctic, with particular emphasis on North Korea. We also discussed our cooperation, including our achievements so far and future collaboration on search and rescue in the Pacific and response to natural disasters abroad.

“Japan Air Self-Defense Force and Royal Canadian Air Force units have some key elements in common and we look forward to sharing our work culture and professional lessons learned as our two nations work together in the Pacific.”
