News Release

September 1, 2017 – Valcartier, Que. – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

Canada’s new defence policy, Strong, Secure, Engaged, states the Government of Canada’s commitment to providing the women and men of the Canadian Armed Forces with the support they need, including modern facilities in which to work and train.

On behalf of Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development Jean-Yves Duclos and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health Joël Lightbound today took part in a ceremony marking the beginning of construction of a new building and replacement of two shelters at CFB Valcartier.

The Government of Canada is focussed on growth that supports the middle class and those working hard to join it. This infrastructure project will generate investments of up to $95.9 million (including taxes) in the local economy, and is expected to create approximately 250 jobs during the construction period.

The new building will be used by 5e Régiment du génie de combat (5 RGC), which is responsible for maintaining and servicing more than 130 vehicles, including highly-specialized engineering vehicles that are used to neutralize explosives and munitions, and detect buried improvised explosive devices. In addition, the building will also offer larger work areas and new administrative offices for engineering staff in Valcartier.
