Canadian Armed Forces to participate in Nijmegen Departure Parade

July 9, 2018 — Ottawa, Ontario — National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces 

Lieutenant-General Charles Lamarre, Commander Military Personnel Command, along with a contingent of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members will participate in the Nijmegen Departure Parade. Media are invited to attend the event. 

Date:                          Tuesday, July 10, 2018

Time:                          11:00 a.m.

Location:                   Canadian War Museum
                                     1 Vimy Place
                                     Ottawa, Ontario

14 teams made up of about 11 CAF members, and supported by other participants, will be marching 40 km a day from July 17-20 through the countryside and towns surrounding the city of Nijmegen in the Netherlands. This is the 102nd edition of the Marches, which challenge the physical and mental endurance of 51,000-plus military and civilian participants from more than 50 countries. The Marches are now the world’s largest walking event.

Friday 13 July:            Commemoration program for the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War and Canada’s Hundred Days, City
                                    Hall in the Grand-Place, in Mons, Belgium

Saturday 14 July:        Commemoration program at Canadian National Vimy Memorial, in Vimy, France

Sunday 15 July:          Flag Raising Ceremony / 4DAAGSE (Four Days) Opening Parade, in Nijmegen, Netherlands

Monday 16 July:         Canadian Remembrance Ceremony at Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery, in Groesbeek, Netherlands

                                     Sunset March at Oversteek City Bridge, in Nijmegen, Netherlands

17 to 20 July:              International Four Days Marches in Nijmegen, Netherlands

Friday 20 July:            Closing Ceremonies and medal presentation in Nijmegen, Netherlands
