NATO Mission Iraq Interview Opportunities
May 14, 2019 – Ottawa – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces
Media are invited to participate in a one-on-one telephone interview with the Commander of NATO Mission Iraq (NMI) for an update on the Canadian contribution to the mission. NMI’s goal is to create the conditions for more effective and sustainable Iraqi security institutions and structures. Canadian Major-General Dany Fortin leads several hundred NATO personnel contributed by Canada and other Allies and partner countries.
Canada’s contributions to NMI complement our country’s ongoing support to Iraq and will help lay the foundation for longer-term peace and stability. Canada’s leadership and participation in NMI complement existing efforts in the Global Coalition against Daesh which is transitioning support for Iraq. NMI also coordinates closely with the United Nations, the European Union and individual countries in their efforts to support Iraq’s long-term security.
