Canadian Armed Forces Transition Group welcomes new Commander

June 30, 2020 – Ottawa – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

Brigadier-General Dyrald Cross assumed command today of the Canadian Armed Forces Transition Group from Major-General Mark Misener during a small ceremony at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa. Vice-Admiral Haydn C. Edmundson, Commander, Military Personnel Command, presided over the ceremony which can be viewed on the CAF Transition Group Facebook page.

Brigadier-General Cross becomes the Canadian Armed Forces Transition Group’s second commander since it was stood up in December 2018. He will lead the formation as it continues to grow its capabilities and deliver on the mission to provide personalized, professional, and standardized casualty support and transition services to Canadian Armed Forces members and their families to include providing care for ill and injured personnel, their families and the families of the deceased.

  • Brigadier-General Dyrald Cross is a highly respected and devoted leader with more than 34 years of experience in the Canadian Armed Forces. He has served numerous overseas tours including deployments to Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Afghanistan, and has most recently served as Special Advisor to the Vice Chief of the Defence Staff.

  • Major-General Mark Misener has served as Commander of the Canadian Armed Forces Transition Group for the past three years and will be appointed as Commander First Canadian Division Headquarters, in Kingston Ontario, replacing Major-General Dany Fortin. Major-General Misener’s leadership was instrumental in guiding the stand-up of the Canadian Armed Forces Transition Group, implementing its initial operating capability, and planning for its future.

  • As the Canadian Armed Forces Transition Group evolves, it will continue to work in close collaboration with Veterans Affairs Canada, and its other key partners, to ensure that the transition from life in the Canadian Armed Forces to life after service is as seamless as possible, and that Veterans continue their enduring affiliation as part of the larger military family.

  • Caring for the ill and injured and their families remains the Canadian Armed Forces Transition Group’s priority. The Canadian Armed Forces Transition Group is dedicated to helping ill and injured members recover, rehabilitate, and reintegrate, within the Forces whenever possible and leverages numerous proven long-standing programs and services such as Soldier On, Operational Stress Injury Social Support (OSISS) and Helping Our Peers by Providing Empathy (HOPE) to deliver the needed support.

  • Canadian Armed Forces Transition Group headquarters is located in Ottawa, with nine regional Transition Units and 32 Transition Centres located across the country. Transition Centres are integrated, one-stop centres where ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces members and their families are offered casualty support. Once fully operational, these Transition Centres, staffed by members from the Canadian Armed Forces and the Department of National Defence, Veterans Affairs Canada and numerous other partners, will offer professional, personalized, and standardized transition services to all Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans, and their families in order to inform, prepare, and empower them as they navigate toward life after service.
