Royal Canadian Navy welcomes new Commander

May 26, 2022 - Halifax, N.S. – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

Media are invited to attend the Change of Command ceremony of the Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy (CRCN), wherein authority will be transferred from Vice-Admiral (VAdm) Craig Baines to VAdm Angus Topshee. General Wayne Eyre, Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) will preside over the ceremony.

VAdm Topshee will assume command as the 38th CRCN. He has served in a variety of command and staff roles throughout his career, most recently serving as Commander Maritime Forces Pacific and Joint Task Force Pacific. The outgoing CRCN, VAdm Baines, will retire from the Canadian Armed Forces after thirty-five years of service.

When: May 30, 2022 at 9 am (ADT)

Where: NJ Jetty, Her Majesty’s Canadian Dockyard Halifax.

There will be a media availability with Vice-Admiral Angus Topshee, incoming Commander Royal Canadian Navy, following the ceremony on the Jetty.

Note to Editors / News Directors:

Interested media must confirm their attendance with Maritime Forces Atlantic Public Affairs at 902-427-3766, or by email at MARLANTPublicAffairs@forces.gc.ca no later than 2 pm ADT on May 27, 2022.

Media are requested to arrive at Admiral’s Gate, HMC Dockyard, with proof of vaccination and photo identification no later than 8:30 am ADT, where they will be greeted and escorted to NJ Jetty to cover the event. Media in attendance must be set up and in place by 8:45 am.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, media who confirm they are attending need to review the enclosed document, sign the “COVID-19 Visitor Attestation” form, scan it, and send it back to MARLANT Public Affairs before they arrive at HMC Dockyard. If this is not done, individuals will not be granted access to the event.

Finally, the event will be live steamed via the Royal Canadian Navy Facebook page. Please note, the comment section of the live stream will not be monitored for media questions.
