His Majesty’s Canadian Ships Kingston and Summerside return from Operation REASSURANCE

October 28, 2022 – Halifax, N.S. – National Defence / Royal Canadian Navy

His Majesty’s Canadian Ships (HMCS) Kingston and Summerside will return to their homeport of Halifax, N.S., after successfully completing their deployments on Operation REASSURANCE, in support of NATO assurance and deterrence measures in European waters.

Contributing two Kingston-class Maritime Coastal Defence Vessels (MCDV) to Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures (SNMCM) Group 1, part of NATO’s high readiness continuous at-sea presence, demonstrates Canada’s continued commitment to Operation REASSURANCE. Their contribution marks the first time Canada has sent MCDVs to operate with NATO SNMCM Groups as part of Operation REASSURANCE.

The successful conclusion of this two-ship deployment demonstrates Canada’s leadership on the world stage and our commitment to working alongside global allies to strengthen security, stability and international cooperation efforts throughout the region.

What: Media are invited to attend the arrival ceremony to capture footage of family and friends on the jetty, and participate in a media scrum. There will be an opportunity to interview Rear-Admiral Brian Santarpia, Commander of Maritime Forces Atlantic.

When: November 01 at 4:30 p.m. (Atlantic)

Media are requested to arrive at Rainbow Gate, His Majesty’s Canadian Dockyard Halifax, with photo identification, no later than 4:00 p.m. (Atlantic) where they will be greeted and escorted to the site to cover the event.
