Canada Army Run 2025: Thousands Racing with Purpose in Support of the Canadian Armed Forces

News release

September 22, 2025 – Ottawa – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

This past weekend, downtown Ottawa transformed into a vibrant hub of military camaraderie and athletic spirit as thousands gathered for the 18th edition of Canada Army Run, presented by BMO. From Friday to Sunday, events such as the Canadian Tire Race Expo and BMO Kids’ Zone took place ahead of the culminating races on Sunday, September 21.

With great enthusiasm, more than 15,000 participants rallied near Ottawa City Hall early Sunday morning to run, walk, or roll in various challenges including the 5K, the 10K, the half marathon, the Sergeant Major’s Challenge (5K + 10K), and the Commander’s Challenge (5K + half marathon). Thousands of supporters also gathered along the race routes to cheer on participants as they passed by.

The races were kicked off with ceremonial cannon fire at Cartier Square Drill Hall, following a countdown led by Lieutenant-General Michael Wright, Commander of the Canadian Army, and Chief Warrant Officer Christopher Robin, the Army Sergeant Major.

For those who were unable to attend in person, virtual races have been taking place throughout the month and will continue until September 26.

More than just a fun and challenging event, Canada Army Run is a meaningful opportunity for Canadians to thank Canadian Armed Forces members — past and present — and to raise funds for Support Our Troops and Soldier On, the official charitable causes of the Canadian Armed Forces, which offer support to ill and injured military members, Veterans, and their families.

Canada Army Run is “No Ordinary Race”. It stands as a powerful symbol of support for Canadian Armed Forces members and their families.
