STREAMLINED AIR CADET NATIONAL SUMMER TRAINING COURSES SELECTION PROCESS

Reference: 1085-0-2 Commander Natl CJCR Sp Gp Direction and Guidance for Fiscal Year 19/20

1.     In accordance with reference, we are pleased to announce that a streamlined National Summer Training Courses selection process for Air Cadets will be implemented for 2020.

2.     The Air Cadet National Summer Training Courses selection process has been designed to be standardized across the Natl CJCR Sp Gp, streamlined to reduce workload for squadrons, impartial, and transparent; thereby ensuring the highest merited cadets are selected for each opportunity.

3.     While the process has been developed for select Air Cadet National Summer Training Courses in 2020, the intention is to institute a similar process for select, Army Cadet and Sea Cadet Summer Training Courses in the future.

4.     Due to the high volume of applicants and limited number of positions available, the streamlined selection process will be utilized across the Natl CJCR Sp Gp to select Air Cadets for the following National Summer Training Courses:

        a. International Air Cadet Exchange (IACE);
        b. Power Pilot Scholarship (PPS); and
        c. Glider Pilot Scholarship (GPS).

5.     Selection of Air Cadets for all other National Summer Training Courses will be completed using a similar automated file review selection process but will not include an interview and / or exam.

6.     The updated selection process depending on the course, is comprised of two or three assessment factors: file review, qualifying exam (PPS and GPS only), and interview. Each assessment factor is worth a set percentage of the cadet’s final score. Assessment factors are standardized and will be carried out in the same manner across the Formation.

7.     Key dates for 2020 are as follows:

        a. 30 Sep – 15 Dec 19 – Application period;
        b. 15 Dec 19 – Application end date;
        c. 6 – 19 Jan 20 – Conduct period for PPS / GPS qualifying exam;
        d. 20 Jan – 16 Feb 20 – Conduct period for interviews;
        e. 2 Mar 20 – Selections announced; and
        f. 23 Mar 20 – Selections confirmed.
