3. Definitions

Enhanced training session. ETSs are activities outside of regular JCR training and are designed to complement the community-level program. ETSs usually provide a chance for JCRs to travel away from home, and should include activities that JCRs could not participate to within their own patrols.

4. JCR Program Honours and Awards System

4.1 The JCR Program Honours and Awards system is not included in the Canadian Military Honours (Orders, decorations and medals) system.

4.2 The CJCR Honours and Awards committee, which includes both JCR and Cadet Program personnel, determines which honours and awards will be available to JCRs. The committee determines eligibility criteria and order of precedence.

4.3 The JCR Program Honours and Awards system is administered by CJCR in collaboration with CA stakeholders.

4.4 This CJCR Gp Order takes precedence over CRPG/local dress instructions with respect to the wearing of medals, ribbons and other uniform accoutrements. This order must be read in conjunction with Chapter 7 of the Cadet and JCR Dress Instructions.

5. Honours and Awards in the JCR Program

5.1 The following honours and awards are available to JCRs:

  1. Cadet Award for Bravery;
  2. Lord Strathcona Medal;
  3. Royal Canadian Legion Medal of Excellence;
  4. Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans in Canada Cadet Medal of Merit;
  5. Order of St. George Medal;
  6. Cadet Commendation;
  7. Comd CJCR Commendation;
  8. The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award; and
  9. Canada Company Bursary.

5.2 JCRs may be nominated for honours and awards by their community-level Patrol staff or any other appropriate person in their chain of command. The CRPG CO recommends a nomination up through their Division HQ to the CA HQ for endorsement and submission to CJCR HQ for approval.

6. Transfer Between Patrols and Different Youth Programs

6.1 A JCR who transfers to a different JCR Patrol or the Cadet Program, is permitted to wear the medal or award with their new JCR Patrol, or corps/squadron.

6.2 Cadets who transfer to the JCR Program are permitted wear medals or awards previously earned as a cadet, even if the medal or award is not available to JCRs.

7. Wearing of Medals, Ribbons and Awards

7.1 Honours and awards in the form of a medal (with or without a ribbon) are worn on the right side of the chest, in line with the middle of the epaulette on the JCR sweatshirt.

7.2 Commendation pins and Duke of Edinburgh pins are worn on the right side of the chest, in line with the middle of the epaulette on the JCR sweatshirt. If the JCR also has medals, commendations and Duke of Edinburgh pins are worn 0.5 cm below these.

7.3 A Canadian Order, decoration or medal is worn on the left side of the chest, in line with the middle of the epaulette on the JCR sweatshirt.

Order of Precedence

7.4 Medals will be worn side by side according to the following order of precedence:

  1. Cadet Award for Bravery;
  2. Lord Strathcona Medal;
  3. Royal Canadian Legion Cadet Medal of Excellence;
  4. Navy League of Canada Medal of Excellence;
  5. The Major-General W.A. Howard Award;
  6. Air Force Association Medal;
  7. Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans in Canada Cadet Medal of Merit;
  8. Order of St. George Medal;
  9. Sea Cadet Service Medal;
  10. Army Cadet Service Medal; and
  11. Air Cadet Service Medal.

7.5 If a JCR has multiple commendation pins, or a commendation pin and a Duke of Edinburgh pin, they are worn one above the other (0.5 cm apart) in the following order of precedence:

  1. CDS Commendation (to be worn on the left side);
  2. VCDS Commendation (to be worn on the left side);
  3. Cadet Commendation;
  4. Navy League of Canada Award of Commendation; and
  5. Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.
