The batteries of the 79th Field Regiment were raised as Active Force sub-units on the framework of Reserve Force batteries (209th, 258th, and 284th Field Batteries) for service in Germany with the 27th Canadian Infantry Brigade Group. Upon return to Canada the batteries were disbanded on 29 July 1953^{Footnote 7} and then reformed from available resources for post Armistice service in Korea from May to November 1954 under the designation '3rd Regiment, RCHA'.^{Footnote 8}
