Operational history

The Second World War

Vancouver (2nd) served on escort duties off of the coasts of British Columbia, Quebec and Nova Scotia and in the North Atlantic with 'Esquimalt Force', 'Quebec Force' and the 'Western Local Escort Force'.Footnote 6

Coalition Operation – Libya

Vancouver (3rd) began operations in support of Op UNIFIED PROTECTOR on 24 August 2011, patrolling off the coast of Misrata and Sirte. Vancouver’s role was to enforce the arms embargo, build upon the previously-developed pattern of life in the maritime environment, monitor the recognized maritime picture and liaise with Misrata Port Control to monitor the incoming and outgoing vessel traffic. The combat phase concluded on 31 October 2011.Footnote 7

South-West Asia

Vancouver (3rd) arrived in theatre as an element of American forces deployed from the U.S. Pacific Fleet. Tasks performed included duties as escort and integrated component of the John C. Stennis Carrier Battle Group. Vancouver arrived in theatre with the Battle Group in November of 2001 and departed on 31 May 2002.Footnote 8
