Operational history

The Second World War

Algonquin (1st) served on escort duties along the coasts of Norway and France with '23rd Destroyer Flotilla' and '26th Destroyer Flotilla' of the 'British Home Fleet'.Footnote 7

South-West Asia

Algonquin arrived for the first rotation of ships in late March 2002. The ship was the second Flag Ship of the Canadian Task Group sent to the Arabian Sea and carried Commodore Eric Lehre as the Canadian Task Group Commander (CTG 307.1) replacing Commodore Robertson. Tasks performed included supporting the transition to Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIO) and Leadership Interdiction Operations (LIO) in the region. Footnote 8
