Operation AUGMENTATION
June 1999 - October 2001
Operation AUGMENTATION was Canada’s participation from 1999 to 2001 in the coalition fleet enforcing U.N. sanctions against Iraq in the Persian Gulf. Between June 1999 and October 2001, four frigates deployed individually on Op AUGMENTATION, each integrated into a U.S. Navy battle group. The battle groups were deployed to enforce the no-fly zone and import-export sanctions imposed on Iraq by United Nations Security Council Resolution 688 of April 1991.
