News Release
The Tomifobia Nature Trail bicycle path in Estrie to take on a fresh new look
August 4, 2016 – Ayer’s Cliff, Quebec – Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)
Key players in the communities have long been asking for concrete, lasting improvements to the community and recreational infrastructures. The Government of Canada is proud to invest in projects that, like this one by Les Sentiers Massawippi organization, contribute to the vitality and dynamism of all the country’s regions.
The Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie and MP for Compton-Stanstead, announced, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, that the non-profit organization Les Sentiers Massawippi was awarded $52,250 in financial assistance to make repairs to the Tomifobia Nature Trail bicycle path.
Established in 1990, the organization makes the Tomifobia Nature Trail available to all outdoor enthusiasts. The trail links Ayer’s Cliff to Stanstead and is designed for a variety of sports: cycling, walking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. It is also greatly appreciated by bird and wildlife organizations. This 19-kilometre trail further connects to Vermont’s cycling network through the Stanstead trail.
The non-repayable contribution, awarded under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) will help the organization to repair the damaged sections of the path. The planned work includes installing new culverts, resurfacing sections of the trail, repairing two bridges and improving the signage.
CED is one of the six regional development agencies under the responsibility of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.
