Government of Canada invests in five projects by the Haute-Gaspésie and La Côte-de-Gaspé RCMs

January 19, 2015 – Rimouski, Quebec – Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, Jacques Gourde, Member of Parliament for Lotbinière–Chutes-de-la-Chaudière and Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, for Official Languages and for the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced that three businesses in the regional county municipality (RCM) of Rimouski-Neigette have been granted financial assistance to either acquire equipment, modernize their production facilities or carry out commercialization activities.

Repayable contribution of $78,000 out of a total investment of $384,288

Built in 1873, the Auberge Château Lamontagne welcomes many tourists and citizens in its seven lodging units, meeting room and restaurant.

The financial assistance, awarded under the QEDP, will enable the inn to increase its accommodation capacity, enhance the quality of its service offering and its competitiveness.

Knights of Columbus of the Council of St‑Joachim-de-Tourelle

Non-repayable contribution of $16,000 out of a total investment of $32,000

The Chevaliers de Colomb du Conseil de St-Joachim-de-Tourelle help individuals, families and various organizations by arranging a variety of social and community events.

The financial assistance, awarded under CIP150, will enable the organization to refurbish the community hall of the Chevaliers de Colomb de Saint-Joachim-de-Tourelle.

Town of Cap-Chat

Non-repayable contribution of $131,235 out of a total investment of $262,469

The Centre sportif Claude Jourdain is a place where citizens of the region and the surrounding area get together for community and sports activities.

The financial assistance, awarded under CIP150, will help fit up the centre by replacing the roof’s sheet metal, flashings, friezes and ridge beam and insulating the attic.

City of Murdochville

Non-repayable contribution of $496,748 out of a total investment of $993,496

The Centre sportif de Murdochville has facilities in which citizens can engage in various sports or recreation activities such as swimming, skating and hockey.

The financial assistance, awarded under CIP150, will enable the centre to replace the arena’s refrigeration system with a more environmentally friendly system, insulate the walls and ceiling, and rebuild the roof.

 

 

Maison L’Essentielle in Saint-Maxime-de-Mont-Louis (Gros-Morne)

 

 

Non-repayable contribution of $70,182 out of a total investment of $140,363

The Maison L’Essentielle is a place where the public can take part in many activities, including music, stained glass, sewing and cooking workshops; lectures; board games; and dance lessons. The public also has access to sports and fitness equipment, to one of Dr. Julien’s clinics and to a municipal library.

 

The financial assistance granted under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150) will be used to renovate the interior of the building, including electrical work and the manufacture and installation of storage cabinets. Exterior work will include the construction and installation of a balcony and a ramp for persons with disabilities, landscaping and construction of a parking lot.
