Government of Canada supports community projects in three Pontiac municipalities

Backgrounder

April 19, 2017 – Campbell’s Bay, Quebec – Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED) 

William Amos, Member of Parliament for Pontiac, acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, announced that the Association récréative de Chapeau, the Municipality of Île-du-Grand-Calumet, the Bryson Recreation Association, the Centre des loisirs de Portage-du-Fort and the Shawville Lions Club have been granted $63,495 in financial assistance, in the form of non-repayable contributions, to improve community centres and a playground. 

The contributions were awarded through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150).

Association récréative de Chapeau

Non-repayable contribution of $31,198 out of a total investment of $72,395 

The project consists in expanding a playground located in the community park of L'Isle-aux-Allumettes. 

The project involves the implementation of a new children’s play area in the community park. The new installations will include swings, permanent park benches and a sun shelter. This addition to the park will complete the playground facilities already in place. 

Municipality of Île-du-Grand-Calumet

Non-repayable contribution of $11,986 out of a total investment of $23,972 

Bordered by the Ottawa River, the Municipality of Île-du-Grand-Calumet belongs to the Pontiac RCM and has 731 inhabitants. 

The project consists in adding sanitary facilities accessible to persons with reduced mobility on the ground floor of the municipality’s community centre and repairing the access ramp and sanitary facilities in the basement. 

The project will make the Île-du-Grand-Calumet community centre more accessible and reduce water consumption. 

Association récréative de Bryson Recreation Association

Non-repayable contribution of $9,723 out of a total investment of $19,446 

The project consists in expanding the Lions park located in Bryson. 

The project involves the implementation of a new children's play structure. The addition of this equipment will complete the existing play structures in the park. 

Centre des loisirs de Portage-du-Fort

 

Non-repayable contribution of $7,849 out of a total investment of $15,698 

Incorporated in 1995, this non-profit organization is a recreation centre where families and groups of all ages can join in outdoor sports and recreational activities in a safe environment. 

The project involves expanding the playground in the Portage-du-Fort community park and adding a children’s playground module to the existing infrastructure. 

Shawville Lions Club Inc.

Non-repayable contribution of $2,739 out of a total investment of $11,178 

The Shawville Lions Club is a non-profit organization that was incorporated in 1981. From the time of its creation, the club has been working with volunteers to support and deliver a variety of projects in the community. Its mission consists in empowering volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding. 

The project involves the complete renovation of the kitchen in the Shawville Lions Club community centre. The kitchen is a major asset at the centre because it is used for numerous community activities, including local birthday celebrations, fundraising dinners and community suppers. The work will include plumbing, electrical work and fit-up of the premises.
