Support from the Government of Canada will allow two Lanaudière-region businesses to increase their production capacity and create high-quality jobs

News Release

July 21, 2017 – Saint-Félix-de-Valois, Quebec – Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

More than 225 jobs will be maintained and 40 more will be created for the residents of the region as a result of a $1,455,000 investment by the Government of Canada in two well-established Lanaudière-region companies.

David Lametti, MP for LaSalle — Émard — Verdun and Parliamentary Secretary to the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, made the announcement today.

The goal of the project by Plastiques GPR Inc., the largest manufacturing employer in the Matawinie MRC, is to acquire state-of-the-art equipment. A $1,260,000 contribution will allow Plastiques GPR to purchase two injection molding machines. The company will be better equipped to meet its clients’ demands, and its employees will have technological equipment to do their work. With the increase in its production capacity and the enhancement of its productivity, Plastiques GPR will be able to provide high-quality jobs for the population of the region.

Syri Ltd. will receive $195,000 in funding. Acquiring a laser cutting table and a bending machine will allow the company to provide high-quality jobs. In addition, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software will help the company improve its productivity, reduce costs and ensure greater flexibility in its production process.

This funding, in the form of repayable contributions, is provided under CED’s Quebec Economic Development Program within the broader framework of the Government of Canada’s Innovation and Skills Plan. This Plan provides for multi-year investments aimed at making Canada a global centre for innovation. It will help create even more well-paid jobs and will foster growth in the middle class.

Quotes

“Our government is committed to driving innovation to ensure jobs and prosperity for Canadians. This is reflected in the projects announced today.”

David Lametti, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED

“Where innovation happens matters because that’s where the best jobs are located. And those jobs spin off into even more good middle-class jobs in every community where innovation happens. When companies need to invest, they look for the most innovative economies—those with the most creative and entrepreneurial people who can turn ideas into solutions. That’s what creates jobs and drives growth in Quebec’s economy.”

The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for CED

“Our business is growing and the volume of demand from our main clients has been rising steadily. To meet this demand and position ourselves within our market, we are investing in our equipment fleet in order to increase our production capacity and remain on the leading edge of technology. Hence the importance of this project and our investment therein.”

Dany Belleville, Vice-President, Plastiques GPR Inc.

“This funding will allow us to enhance productivity, increase production capacity and maintain the company's delivery timelines. The project will also create five new jobs.”

Jean-Pierre Syri, President, Syri Ltd.
