Mauricie families to benefit from upgraded community spaces that support a better quality of life
News Release
Government of Canada invests over $340,000 in eight community infrastructure projects
January 9, 2018 – Shawinigan, Quebec – Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)
Families in the eastern Mauricie region will benefit from upgraded recreational spaces and modern community facilities thanks to a total of $340,257 in non-repayable contributions from the Government of Canada. The funding provided will generate over $750,000 in related investments by other partners, such as non-profit organizations and municipalities. The projects receiving support will help target access to water, outdoor activities and the use of community infrastructure, thus enhancing citizens’ quality of life.
The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Member of Parliament for Saint-Maurice—Champlain and Minister of International Trade, made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED.
The eight recipients are as follows: the Municipality of Sainte-Thècle, Parc de l’île Melville, the Centre de loisirs de Saint-Narcisse-de-Champlain, Parc de la rivière Batiscan, the Parish Municipality of Sainte-Geneviève-de-Batiscan, the Association des pourvoyeurs et des pêcheurs du poisson des chenaux de la rivière Ste-Anne, the Classique internationale de canots de la Mauricie and the Municipality of Saint‑Stanislas.
These investments were made through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150), a $300 million fund set up to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary by investing in community spaces that bring Canadians together.
Quotes
“The financial support we are providing for our communities clearly reflects our commitment to foster sustainable growth and prosperity in Canada. By upgrading our community infrastructure, as these eight great projects aim to do, we are helping to enhance the vitality of our communities and ensure a high quality of life for residents of all ages.”
François-Philippe Champagne, Member of Parliament for Saint-Maurice—Champlain and Minister of International Trade
“These investments are part of a community building project to celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary. And what better way to mark this milestone than by celebrating the places that bring us together—the places that allow us to stay fit, unwind and connect with our friends and neighbours. That’s how we establish the bonds of common understanding and friendship in a country where people hail from every corner of the world. The values of openness, diversity and inclusion that define all Canadians are forged in our community spaces.”
