Backgrounder - Over 150 jobs created in four thriving Laurentides-region companies

Backgrounder

February 19, 2018 – Saint-Jérôme, Quebec – Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

With the help of financial support from CED, four Laurentides-region companies will be able to carry out projects that will generate a total investment of over $12 million in the region. The projects involve increasing production capacity and enhancing productivity; innovation-based marketing; and equipment acquisition. Over 150 high-quality jobs will also be created for middle-class Canadians.

These repayable contributions totalling $1,800,000 were announced today by the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED.

The funding is provided under the Quebec Economic Development Program.

Foliot Furniture Inc.

Repayable contribution of $1,000,000 out of a total investment of $5,000,000

The goal of the project is to enhance the company’s productivity and increase its production capacity by setting up a new ERP information management system.

A manufacturer of institutional furniture, Folio Furniture has been making beds, cupboards, desks, hutches, bookshelves, dressers, sofas, tables and chairs for student residences, military institutions, hotels and seniors’ residences since 1992. Its products are mainly made from melamine, and meet the specific requirements of the institutional sector. The company employs just over 500 people at two production sites: a plant in Saint-Jérôme that employs about 350 people, and a plant in Las Vegas with approximately 150 employees.

(PAMA Manufacturing)

 

Repayable contribution of $450,000 out of a total investment of almost $6,000,000

The project aims to support clean growth at PAMA Manufacturing through innovation and the marketing of the company’s products and services in the U.S. Specifically, the project involves the construction of the new plant in Mirabel, as well as the acquisition of equipment, including equipment for recovering greenhouse gases generated by new sterilization services, and the implementation of a marketing plan that will allow the company to penetrate the U.S. market.

Created in 2012, PAMA Manufacturing employs 23 people at the plant built in Mirabel under this project. The company manufactures and assembles disposable medical supplies for use in operating rooms (for biopsies, epidurals, hemodialysis, catheters, etc.).

Trica Inc.

 

Repayable contribution of $250,000 out of a total investment of $500,000

The goal of the project is to improve the company’s productivity and increase its production capacity through the acquisition of digital production equipment.

Founded in 1990, Trica produces regular and high-end contemporary residential furniture that it sells to Canadian and U.S. furniture retailers and distributors. The company, which is located in Saint‑Jérôme, employs 115 people in a 120,000 sq. ft. plant.

HUWIZ Solutions Inc.

 

Repayable contribution of $100,000 out of a total investment of $511,000

The project involves the start-up of HUWIZ Solutions Inc., a company in the video game and computer application sector. Specifically, it includes equipment acquisition and installation, the hiring of specialized resources, the acquisition of furnishings, and leasing and legal fees.

Incorporated in April 2017, HUWIZ Solutions Inc. is a start-up company that is in line with the value chain of the video game, mobile gaming, software and computer application industry. It provides quality assurance testing and project management services, as well as focus groups for Web, mobile and computer application developers and editors.
