Backgrounder: Six businesses in Lévis and the surrounding area can continue to grow, develop new markets and innovate

April 6, 2018 – Lévis, Quebec – Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

Six enterprises in the Lévis area—Supervac (9069-4654 Québec Inc.), Robotiq Inc., TechMed 3D Inc., St-Agapit Wood Products, Pyromaître Inc. and Atelier Usinage Carignan Inc. (website in French only)—will be able to rely on financial assistance from the Government of Canada to improve their production capacity, implement marketing strategies and purchase strategic equipment. These projects will generate total investments of more than $5.5 million and create 36 new jobs in the area.

The repayable contributions totalling $2,073,000 were announced today by the Honourable Bardish Chagger, Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and Minister of Small Business and Tourism, acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED.

The funding has been granted through the Quebec Economic Development Program.

Robotiq Inc.

Repayable contribution of $500,000 out of a total investment of $1,470,000

The project consists in developing a marketing strategy for European markets, more specifically, in Germany, France and the United Kingdom.

Robotiq is a highly innovative enterprise that was created in 2008 and designs, manufactures and markets robotic tools (robotic grippers, force torque sensors, wrist cameras) and agile automation software. The manufacture of the majority of Robotiq product components is subcontracted to local enterprises (in Lévis and Côte-de-Beaupré). Final assembly, software integration and quality control are performed directly at Robotiq.

Supervac Inc. (9069-4654 Québec Inc.)

Repayable contribution of $500,000 out of a total investment of $1,375,000

The project involves the implementation of a marketing strategy in the United States, including the following: 1) prospecting activities; 2) the acquisition or development of promotional and advertising materials; 3) participation in trade shows; and 4) the manufacture of four different demonstrator truck models.

Founded in 1979, Supervac is an innovative manufacturer in Lévis. It designs, manufactures and markets mobile vacuum equipment such as vacuum trucks, combination sewer cleaners, hydro excavators and sanitation equipment. Supervac is also known as an equipment manufacturer with a capacity to innovate and meet the specific and complex needs of its clientele.

TechMed 3D Inc.

Repayable contribution of $400,000 out of a total investment of $975,000

The project involves implementing a market development strategy in the United States and in Europe to support the company’s growth. CED’s contribution is going toward marketing activities, including the following: 1) the hiring of employees to work on international business development in the United States and in Europe; and 2) the implementation of a marketing strategy (participation in trade shows, prospecting, the acquisition and/or development of promotional and marketing materials, etc.).

Founded in 2009, TechMed started out by designing, developing and marketing software that measures the human body with a scanner for the manufacture of custom orthotics and prosthetics. Over the past few years, it has developed a software application (MSoft) that is used today to analyze and interpret human measurements taken with low-cost standard scanners (some costing less than $500). In short, TechMed has developed a solution that has democratized the virtual acquisition of the human body in 3D.

St-Agapit Wood Products

Two repayable contributions of $200,000 and $104,000 out of total investments of $525,000 and $285,000

Both projects consist in improving productivity and growing the business by marketing products in the United States and acquiring strategic production equipment. In addition to covering the marketing costs, CED’s assistance will go toward the purchase of equipment, including a press, a mortise and tenon machine, a cutting machine, an optimized edging system and a robotic handling cell.

In business since 1992, St-Agapit Wood Products (PBSA) mainly manufactures middle and high-end wooden cabinet doors (kitchen and bathroom). These products are made by a team of 30 employees and are intended for manufacturers of specialized products and for clients who want distinctive products.

Pyromaître Inc.

Two repayable contributions of $184,000 and $75,000 out of total investments of $520,000 and $150,000

Pyromaître’s projects consist in improving the energy efficiency of a product line, developing a new product, acquiring quality control instruments and implementing a marketing strategy for the United States and European markets.

Located in Lévis, Pyromaître is an innovative SME that was founded in 1981. It designs, assembles and markets industrial electrical and gas ovens whose components are manufactured by subcontractors. These ovens are used for the high-speed, high-precision heat treatment of a variety of metal parts, including coils, torsion bars and constant-velocity joints to improve their durability, hardness and yield strength. Pyromaître is the first manufacturer to offer a computer numerical control (CNC) oven and has developed expertise that is recognized by motor vehicle parts industry giants that require heat treatment in their manufacturing process. These ovens stand out from the competition because of their lower energy consumption, superior efficiency, small size and greater precision (uniform heat distribution). The intellectual property rights lie in a set of characteristics in the oven assembly: the choice of components, the assembly sequence, and so on.

Atelier Usinage Carignan Inc.

Repayable contribution of $110,000 out of a total investment of $220,000

The project involves the acquisition of strategic equipment to improve the company’s productivity and increase its production capacity. CED’s contribution is going toward all project costs, including the purchase and installation of a latest generation computer numerical control (CNC) lathe and related costs.

Founded in 1998 and located in Lévis, Atelier Usinage Carignan (AUC) designs and produces metal parts (steel and aluminum) for a clientele made up primarily of manufacturers. Some of the parts produced by AUC are made to be integrated into products manufactured by its clients, while others are used in the maintenance and repair of their equipment. AUC sets itself apart by its ability to develop custom products for its clients based on stringent requirements. All parts produced by AUC are designed in-house. The enterprise is part of a regional/provincial value chain for exporting clients (Biscuits Leclerc, Connexus, Rudsak, Busch Vacuum Technics, etc.).
