Governments of Quebec and Canada support growth of Uniboard Canada in Bas-Saint-Laurent

Sayabec, Quebec, May 14, 2018 – The governments of Quebec and Canada have awarded a total of $8 million in financial assistance to Uniboard Canada, an engineered wood product manufacturer. The company will now be able to carry out a $17 million project to continue optimizing the production equipment in its Sayabec particleboard plant in Bas-Saint-Laurent by installing a second new generation lamination press to increase its production capacity by 20%.
Jean D’Amour, Minister for Maritime Affairs and Minister responsible for the Bas-Saint-Laurent region, acting on behalf of Dominique Anglade, Deputy Premier, Minister of Economy, Science and Innovation and Minister responsible for the Digital Strategy, and Rémi Massé, Member of Parliament for Avignon–La Mitis–Matane–Matapédia, acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED), made the announcement today.
The government assistance is broken down as follows: the ministère de l’Économie, de la Science et de l’Innovation has granted a $5 million loan through the ESSOR program, and CED has awarded a $3 million repayable contribution through the Quebec Economic Development Program.
